KeymasterHi,
sorry this must be a bug that happens when installation tool is started two or more times after booting from live cd. Can you just retry starting installation tool and installation just after booting?

KeymasterI wonder what driver you are using now, is your chip know not to be working with open source modeset driver (radeon)?
Anyway you have to install
xorg-drv-video-fglrx
, then check that driver is installed and compiled correctly withsudo dkms status
, then remove/etc/X11/Xorg.conf
and reboot (of course this should be done after installing the system or using livecd on a persistent pendrive).August 16, 2013 at 12:44 pm in reply to: Cannot get live session from openmamba from livedvd-2.0.11 #21063Silvan
KeymasterBoth should work, i586 is the traditional most complete and tested architecture, x86_64 is recent in openmamba and lacks some packages which may still require porting (this is not a big problem) plus still lacks some 32bit libraries support for some 32bit only non-free software (like Skype).

KeymasterUsing the livecd you will start from a minimal installation and later you will be able to install from network all (or part of) the components that are in the livedvd.
Here I recommend livecd just to speed-up and simplify download & test for this basic problem.
From this page you can get any version, yes for the devel version you need to download the latest weekly snapshot:

KeymasterHi Bhatta,
thanks for taking the time to report the problem and taking the pictures.
Unfortunately the report couldn’t be created because the computer serial number contains ‘/’ which are not escaped by the
openmamba-makereport
(now fixed for future releases). You may want to retry runningopenmamba-makereport
after editing or deleting the file/etc/sysconfig/machine
.BTW image-1426 shows a X crash while detecting the video driver, this may be caused by the ATI proprietary driver, the report should give further details on the problem by including
/var/log/Xorg.*.log
files. Also you might try booting the devel (snapshot) livecd or livedvd releases which contain more up-to-date user-space drivers.

KeymasterHi,
can you access a console by pressing CTRL-ALT-F2? If so you might try to generate a system report with the
openmamba-makereport
command, copy the output file outside someway and attach it here or send to reports @ openmamba.org for me to check.Silvan
KeymasterIf you fell into a recently seen problem after a kernel upgrade which shows as a kernel error on a black screen, try pressing CTRL-ALT-F2 then CTRL-ALT-F1 to get back to the desktop, then if network works, do a system upgrade and reboot.

KeymasterAnch’io ho provato e mi sembra che funzioni, ho creato una discussione e poi l’ho cancellata.

KeymasterHi Tweedle,
yes the bootusb instructions need to be rewritten since 2.0pre3, thank you for reporting.
BTW if you have a working installation of openmamba 2.0pre3 the easiest way to make a live USB pendrive is by using the “usbinstall” tool that you find in the applications menu under System -> openmamba.

KeymasterThere are no preset passwords in openmamba, normally when this happens it’s because of a bug in desktop environment startup. You can press CTRL-ALT-F2 to access a console where you can set a password but that won’t fix the problem. The cause of the problem might be visible in /root/.xsession-errors or you can generate a detailed report by running the command openmamba-makereport and then send the output file to reports@openmamba.org for us to examine it. Regards.

KeymasterSo the problem must be elsewhere. You can start the system in debug mode and take a snapshot of the last messages by following these instructions:
http://wiki.openmamba.org/en/index.php/Problems_when_the_system_starts
Have you configured in the box a combination of IDE and SATA drives? This may issue a known problem in the root= kernel parameter, so you also can try with different root= boot options. Anyway we can diagnose this by looking at the debug messages as said above.

KeymasterI’ve successfully installed the latest snapshot (20100719) under VirtualBox. The box is configured with an IDE Controller PIIX4, maybe you set up a SATA or SCSI controller?
Silvan
KeymasterI’m going to test a VirtualBox installation to see and fix this as this problem should happen independently from hardware.
Silvan
KeymasterI’ve seen in past such problems with combinations of IDE/SATA disks, is that your situation? Can you provide the installation log that is called /var/log/install*.log and is in the installed openmamba partition? You may attach it here or more privately to reports<at>openmamba<dot>org. Thanks.
Silvan
KeymasterI don’t have a solution yet, but can you check if you get sound from headphones?
