[#116]

Because of the issues with plasma 6.8 and nvidia_470, then the issues with wayland and nouveau, I have decided to try out an alternative to complete display environments.

I have tried to get bspwm.

To compile bspwm I need to install libwinerama-devel, but a depencendy of it is missing from the repos (404): libxcb-devel

How do I report these kind of issues?

bspwm and sxhkd (the hotkey daemon bspwm relies on for keyboard bindings) are now packaged for openmamba and available in the devel-makedist repository, so there's no need to compile them yourself.

About the libxcb-devel 404

libxcb-devel is in the repository: libxcb 1.17.0-2mamba was published yesterday, and your local metadata was still pointing to the file of the previous release. Running dnf with --refresh (as below) fixes it. Note also that bspwm doesn't need libXinerama-devel: it uses xcb-xinerama, which is part of libxcb.

Installation

Install bspwm from the unstable devel-makedist repository (sxhkd is pulled in automatically):

sudo dnf --refresh --enablerepo=unstable-makedist install bspwm

Configuration

Copy the example configuration files into your home directory:

mkdir -p ~/.config/bspwm ~/.config/sxhkd
install -m 755 /usr/share/doc/bspwm/examples/bspwmrc ~/.config/bspwm/bspwmrc
cp /usr/share/doc/bspwm/examples/sxhkdrc ~/.config/sxhkd/sxhkdrc

The example sxhkdrc uses urxvt as terminal (Super+Return) and dmenu_run as launcher (Super+Space): edit it to use the programs you have installed (e.g. xterm, konsole, rofi -show drun).

Then log out and select the bspwm session in the login manager. More examples are available in /usr/share/doc/bspwm/examples/ and /usr/share/doc/sxhkd/examples/.

How to report this kind of issue

The forum is the right place, as you did: use the users forum for the rolling release, or the devel forum if you are testing packages. This applies to requests for software that isn't packaged yet while issues for existing broken packages can be reported at the package sources site (login, look for the broken package, open a issue).

For a download error like a 404, try again with --refresh before reporting it: it's often just stale metadata after a package update.

Please let us know how it works for you.

Thanks for packing bspwm and sxhkd, unfortunately I don't have unstable-makedist repo. I have compiled and installed both in the meantime.

You were right my cache was out of date. I'll remember to --refresh next time.

Can you please package the contour terminal?
