When I try to configure CUPS via Konqueror or Firefox, it will not accept the user name or password for my main user or my root user. However, configuring the printer via KDE Control Center works fine as my normal user.

Which version of openmamba you use? I've tested on my snapshot installation and it works with my username and password.
You can check that your user is in the lpadmin group

I am a part of the lpadmin group. I'm using 1.1 milestone 1.
