   Preparation
The ISO image file can be used in different ways:
  • traditionally ISO image file was intended to be burnt on a CD/DVD medium using an appropriate tool and performing the operation by writing the file as "disk image file";
  • the ISO image file can also be used to start openmamba on a virtualization system (e.g. VirtualBox, VMWare);
  • the image can be physically copied into a USB storage using a specific tool or the "dd" command:
    dd if=openmamba-livecd-snapshot-*.iso of=/dev/sdx bs=32M
  • the ISO image file can also be installed and prepared to boot from a USB storage drive providing storage data persistence by using the "Install openmamba on a USB device" tool which is available from an openmamba desktop.

   Preparation
Using any operating system providing the 'dd' run the following command:
  • gunzip -c openmamba-diskimg-livecd-*.img.gz | dd of=/dev/sdx bs=32M
  • after writing it is possible to use a disk partitioning software (e.g. gparted) to grow the disk partition size to fit the whole disk space;
  • the system provides support for persistent data storing and an utility for installing the system on your hard disk;
  • Boot on PCs through BIOS and (U)EFI;
  • It is possible to use any other openmamba distribution variants (livedvd, livecd-light, livecd-gnome) by copying the corresponding .iso file and changing the openmamba-live.iso to point to it.

  • insert the memory card and identify the corresponding device then replace /dev/sdx with your real device path in the following command
  • run the following command from a console window:
    gunzip -c openmamba-diskimg-raspberrypi-*.img.gz | dd of=/dev/sdx bs=32M
It is possible to use other applications which support the preparation of microSD for Raspberry Pi but in this case you may need to uncompress the archive in gzip format first.

The x86_64 version works on Personal Computer (PC) compatibles that meet the following minimum requirements:

The aarch64 version can work on platforms which meet the following minimum requirements:

  • recent Linux kernel with support for the hardware platform
  • the capability (dependent on the device technology) to boot the kernel and modify its boot options to set for example: root=/dev/sda1 or root=/dev/mmcblk0p1 or root=/dev/mmclbk1p1
  • 4 GB of RAM
  • a storage device supported by the Linux kernel and the device (SD, microSD, USB storage, ..) providing at least 16 GB of space

Images for Docker:

On openmamba page at Docker Hub you may find the official Docker images based on the rootfs-base archive for the x86_64, aarch64 and i586 architectures.
